About the Book

Vieles wurde über die Anfangszeit des Kinos geschrieben. Über seine Schwierigkeiten als neues Medium und seine Probleme mit der Etablierung einer Erzählweise. Der Zeichentrickfilm wurde hingegen bisher nur stiefmütterlich behandelt. Nur einige wenige Forscher schrieben über den Trickfilm, zudem meist erst ab der Zeit nach Mickey Maus. Dieses Werk geht dem Ursprung des Trickfilms auf den Grund. Seine Geschichte von den ersten Geräten, die eine Illusion von Bewegung erzeugten, über die ersten Aufführungen mit dem 'Praxinoskop' bis hin zu Stuart Blacktons Film 'Humorous Phases of Funny Faces' wird kurz beleuchtet, jedoch immer mit dem Fokus auf die Frage: Wie erzählt der stumme Trickfilm? Denn klar ist, der Trickfilm musste, wie der Realfilm, seine Sprache erst finden. Doch bedienen sich diese Medien derselben Sprache oder weisen sie Unterschiede auf? Und welche Rolle spielte der Comic bei der Entwicklung einer Erzählstrategie des Zeichentrickfilms? Denn diese Medien sahen sich in der Anfangszeit mit ähnlichen Problemen konfrontiert. Der frühe Film sowie Trickfilm und der Comicstrip mussten mit visuellen Mitteln dem Rezipienten eine verständliche Geschichte übermitteln. Der Comic hatte mit den Sprechblasen schon eine Lösung etabliert, um Dialoge zu visualisieren. Doch war dieses Instrument wirklich der richtige Weg, um dem Film zum Sprechen zu bringen? Eine Analyse der stummen Zeichentrickserie 'The Alice Comedies', die 1923 bis 1927 von Walt Disney produziert wurde, soll Aufschluss über die gestellten Fragen geben.
About the Author: Bianca Lipp, bakk.phil, wurde 1988 in Jennersdorf (Burgenland) geborgen. Seit 2006 studiert sie an der Universität Wien Publizistik und Kommunikationswissenschaft und Theater-, Film- und Medienwissenschaften. Im Laufe ihres Studiums beschäftigte sich die Autorin mit dem Bereich Animationsstudien und Comic. Vor allem der Gegenseitige Einfluss der verschiedenen Medien und die Intermedialität einiger Filme (u.a. 'Scott Pilgrim') waren oft Themen ihrer Abhandlungen.
