"Les Règles de la méthode sociologique" von Émile Durkheim und "Effi Briest" von Theodor Fontane. Émile Durkheim, geboren am 15. April 1858 in Frankreich, gilt als einer der Begründer der Soziologie als empirische Wissenschaft mit eigenständiger Methode. Um die Soziologie von anderen Wissenschaften abzugrenzen, beschrieb er mit dem "sozialen Tatbestand" (1895) ein klar umrissenes Betätigungsfeld, mit dem sich die Soziologie beschäftigen solle, und unterschied ihr Gebiet damit gleichzeitig von Wissenschaften wie Biologie und Psychologie. Theodor Fontane wurde am 30. September 1819 in Neuruppin geboren und gilt als herausragender Vertreter des bürgerlichen Realismus in Deutschland. Sein Roman "Effi Briest" gehört heute zu den Standardwerken des Deutschunterrichts. Er verdankt seinen Ruhm unter anderem seinem leichten Ton der Erzählung und dem Verzicht auf Anklage oder Schulderhebung bei gleichzeitig scharfem Blick auf die gesellschaftliche und historische Situation des ausgehenden 19. Jahrhunderts, und bietet durch die Betrachtung des Konfliktes zwischen Individuum und gesellschaftlichem Zwang eine Fülle von Beispielen für das Wirken der sozialen Tatbestände. Im Folgenden soll sowohl der soziale Tatbestand erläutert, als auch eine kurze inhaltliche Zusammenfassung von "Effi Briest" skizziert werden, um im dritten Teil der Arbeit eine Überprüfung der Definition des sozialen Tatbestandes nach Durkheim anhand des ausgewählten Werks Theodor Fontanes anzufertigen.
