Types of Art

 Drawing

 It is the linear representation of objects on paper such as figures and sketches. Drawings were done on surfaces other than paper such as birch bark and charcoal were used to draw sketches.

 Then, later, chalks were used for drawing.  Then pens, or brushes were used Gradually, things moved from drawing to painting.

Painting

 It is the expression of ideas and emotions with aesthetic qualities on canvas.  Paintings are made using lines, shapes, colours and tones and textures to produce volume on paper.  Earlier, tribes and religions controlled the art form, imagery and subject matter of painting.  In other words, painting had other purposes in antiquity such as devotional, decorative, entertaining and educational. Paintings were made using different ways: on caves, walls of churches and through heated wax on tombs in Egypt. 

Materials included in painting included cheese, resin and plastic, ivory, glass and lacquer and paintings have been used in many ways. People asked painters to make portraits, landscapes and still life which still are made. 

Art still is very important, but not without its challenges in today’s landscape.

Artists face many challenges in navigating today’s landscape which has changed from olden times, now, it is more digital.  Art has changed from the way it was created and distributed earlier.  Navigating challenges of the digital age also means adapting to finding more economic opportunities and how artists should market themselves for their work globally and within a specific country.  It is highly competitive now for artists to carve their niche.
